Narrative Description of Project:

Objective of the study is to evaluate the actual site conditions of Tsunami damaged areas in Maldives, to establish their suitability for remedial and reconstruction work, and to formulate the program for the selected sub-projects under JBIC ODA loan in the sectors of port, water supply and sewerage, based on IEE.

As a result of the study, eleven (11) sub-projects (for 10 islands) and nine (9) sub-projects (for 9 islands) for remedy / reconstruction of island harbors and sewage, respectively.  Island harbors to be remedied or reconstructed consist of HDh. Makunundhoo, Sh. Funadhoo, N. Lhohi, Male North Quay Wall, K. Maafushi, Th. Hirilandhoo, Th. Dhiyamigili, L. Isdhoo, L. Kalhaidhoo, L. Fonadhoo, and GA. Dhaandhoo.

The remedial and reconstruction works cover navigation channel, channel and port basin dredging, breakwaters, shore protection, seawalls, quay walls, reclamation, terminal yards with utilities, and installation of navigation aids.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Your Staff:

The consulting services provided by our staff cover the following :

1)       Site reconnaissance surveys and execution of IEE;

2)       Establishment of criteria for selection of sub-projects for port and sewerage rehabilitation;

3)       Selection of sub-projects to be urgently implemented;

4)       Basic design, construction schedule and cost estimate; and

5)       Recommendations and preparation of sub-project implementation plan.
