Narrative Description of Project:

This study is aimed at studying the methods of enhancing the container handling capacity of the Port of Colombo from the present 1.8 million TEUs to more than 3 million TEUs through the maximum utilization and renovation of the existing facilities of JCT and UCT as the core terminals.  The port facilities to be covered include navigation channel and port basins, channel and basin dredging, container berths, container terminal with buildings and utilities, and Post-Panamax quayside container cranes.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Your Staff:

Consulting services provided by our staff cover the following :

1)       Demand forecast;

2)       Analysis of container handling capacity;

3)       Possible development of container handling facilities;

4)       Engineering study and basic design of channel and basins, container berths and container terminals with buildings and utilities, quayside container cranes, and dredging and reclamation works;

5)       Analysis of national economic effects and financial issues of SLPA;

6)       Assessment of sedimentation in North Channel;

7)       Formation of improvement program;

8)       Evaluation of the project from technical, economic and financial aspects;

9)       Recommendations for implementation plan；and

10)   Preparation of Inception, Progress, Draft Final and Final Reports.
